We are using the service of marriage from the Episcopal Church for our wedding. We love the traditions included in it, but we know they may not be familiar to all of our guests. Below are some details about the service that we hope will be helpful for anyone who is joining an Episcopal service for the first time.

The wedding ceremony will last about an hour and fifteen minutes.
As a nod to both Claire and Zachary's traditions, we will be practicing an extended Passing of the Peace. Traditionally, this is a time to share signs of Christ's peace with one another (a hug, handshake, peace sign, or smile). We will hold a few extra minutes of space so you will have time to introduce yourself to the people sitting near you.
As a part of the service, three passages of scripture will be read. The reader will conclude each reading by saying, "The Word of the Lord." The people will respond, "Thanks be to God." Before the Gospel is read, the priest will say, "The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to _____." The people will respond, "Glory to you, Lord Christ." We will also cross ourselves on our forehead, lips, and chest. After the Gospel is read, the priest will say, "The Gospel of the Lord" and the people will respond, "Praise to you, Lord Christ."
Our marriage ceremony will culminate with the celebration of the Eucharist, also called the Lord’s Supper. The Episcopal Church believes in the real presence of Christ in the elements: that the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive the Eucharist. If you would not like to partake, you may indicate your preference and receive a blessing from the Bishop by crossing your arms over your chest.
